2015.... a look back

2015 was quite a year for us, we opened the shop late 2014, and things have gone from there !
We love being at 9 Brunswick Road in Penrith, surrounded by other lovely independent businesses, friends, neighbours, the big sweet chestnut tree, Teds school and the shop robin.
2015 was none stop with around 90 weddings travelling all over Cumbria and further afield  and seeing some lovely Churches and venues and meeting brides, grooms and their families  Styles of flowers have varied with many colours and styles and each one being different.
Whilst on our travels it been great to see some beautiful venues and work alongside other talented suppliers such as photographers, hair dressers, make up artists and dress makers who work you can see alongside my flowers on the photos on the website.
I've also been able to source a British Flower wholesaler via #BritishFlowersHour on Twitter and taken part in British Flower Week!
Funerals have taken an increasing part of the business which I have found very rewarding to include as much as I can about the person in the flowers.
In summer I started to supply Westmorland Services and the cafes in Rheghed with flowers which can lead to very busy Friday's and early starts on a Monday !
In the cafe we have increased our menu with light lunches and good selection for vegetarians and those with food intolerance s and have found some brilliant local bakers to help us. We ran a pop up restaurant in Maulds Meaburn Village Hall and in January are having a three night pop up restaurant in the shop with more dates to come in March. We have also been doing regular lunchtime buffets.
So keep an eye out on Facebook - Greenwheat Florist and Fika or Twitter @GWFlowers to see what we're up to.

Super busy summer!

Well it's a wet day in Penrith today, so a good chance to do a little blogging! So far this summer has been so busy and we've travelled all over the county with flowers and food! It's been hectic and fun  and here's just a few photos of the past few months - we've also invested in a brand spanking new coffee machine for the cafe and ran a very sucessful pop up restaurant for Eden Food and Farming Week so it's not just about flowers !

Busy, busy and British

Hello it's a wet cold day here in Penrith and while the boys are plying with their Lego , I thought it was time I updated my blog!
Wedding season is in full swing, so weekends are full of wedding flowers, some photos below!
A few other things have been happening so here goes-
-Our current shop window is "wedding season" and I'm encouraging you all to bring in a copy of your wedding photo, we don't mind how long ago it was , and I'll peg them up! Have a look when your passing 9 Brunswick Road.
- I've started trying to get the hang of tweeting/ Twitter having been inspired by James Rebanks / The Herdy Shepards success with Twitter, do follow me @gwflowers ..... which leads me nicely on to my next point!
- I've been trying to stock British Flowers for a few years when in season, but have struggled to find a grower North of Yorkshire. Well I tweeted a picture of my flower seeds, not knowing it was 'British Flower Hour' on Twitter and a supplier and grower in Cornwall replied so now I have a weekly supply of British Flowers alongside my regular deliveries from The Flower Bank! Very exiting I hope it's a success.
Well the Suns come out so its time for a walk I think..

Penrith goes orange and the Marmalade Festival

Dalemain House near Penrith hosts the marmalde festival every year and this year is the 10th Anniversary, the festival raises money for local charity Hospice at Home. This year they have got together with the town of Penrith and Alan who sorts out Totally Locally has organised 'Penrith Goes Orange A-Pell" , so around 5" businesses in town have taken part entering orange window displays and events, along with a visit from Paddington himself! So far it's been a really enjoyable week seeing all the windows - we've decorated ours and have citrus coloured flowers and orange cakes and buscuits ! So if your in town in the next few days or at the festival pop into town for a walk around!
It's also Mothers Day in a couple of week so I'll be taking order so let me know if you need anything!
